Description

Bell Wort Plant is also known as Mary Bells.

The Bell Wort Plant, also called Mary Bells, get their name from their bell-shaped flowers. They were climbing on green vines, getting to be almost 2 feet tall and 18 inches wide. In the early spring, the plant develops bright yellow, bell-shaped flowers.

And from a landscaping point of view, the taller the plants get, the more they tend to lean upon one another, making a charming look against fences or near brick walls.

Bell Wort Plants are native to the Northeastern part of the US, but they will grow in zones 4 through 9 with equal joy.

While many similar plants seem to die down quickly after they bloom, Bell Wort Plants may bloom in May or early June but retain their flowers for the entire summer.

Bell Wort Plants need rich, moist soil.

Bell Wort Plants need rich, moist soil, but it cannot be too boggy.

Bell Wort Plants prefer shade, so plant yours underneath other plants or in areas with plenty of shade to protect them. Also, be sure and make sure the soil they are being grown in is organically rich.

Typically you want to have around 1 inch or more space between each plant.

You will want to buy the Bell Wort Plants from a nursery as it is challenging to

propagate Bell Wort Plants from seeds.

One note of caution is that deer love and are very attracted to these tender flower morsels, so if you are in an area with many deer, you may want to select something else.

You can plant Bell Wort Plant in both the spring and the fall, but if you plant in the fall, they may bloom in the spring, whereas if you plant in the spring, you'll need to wait a year to see the blooms.

Expect to see many pollinators in your yard if you plant these lovely blooms, like bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies alike love them.
